Sobotka was first mentioned in writing in 1323. King Vladislav II granted the town its municipal rights in 1498. The Church of St Mary Magdalene was built between 1590 and 1596 in the late Gothic style. The town hall occupies a building constructed in 1935 as the municipal savings bank.
